Step by step on how to turn old jeans into shorts:
What you will need:
- Old pair of jeans
- Fashion chalk (or a marker will do)
- Steak knife
- Seam Ripper
So if you don’t have an old pair of Jeans that you want to rip up you can go to goodwill, salvation army, any type of thrift store and get some pants. I found these True Religions at a rummage sale I went to for $5. If you do buy some, wash them before you do anything else. That’s just for sanitary reasons lol.
Step one, you want to take your fashion chalk or marker and draw a line measuring how short you want your shorts to be. I cut mine a little diagonal because I like the way those type of shorts come out, but if you prefer a straight across cut, go for it! Just make sure that both sides are even you don’t want one coming out shorter than the other! After you’ve made your line cut about an inch below it so you can leave room to fray the shorts.
Step two, after cutting you will begin fraying and to make it easier to fray (this is optional) you take a steak knife and you just quickly with a little pressure move the knife up and down the bottom of your shorts.
Step three is suppose to show how the outcome of the knife came out but the picture got cut off. However you are suppose to see little white strings coming out of the shorts. Just like in step four.
Step five/six, you will be taking your seam ripper and I recommend buying the longer ones. (The short ones are more annoying to use). You are going to place your seam ripper row by row under the white thread and just pulling it out. As you do this you will start to see the fray. But make sure you are watching your line and don’t fray too much. THIS TAKES A LOT OF TIME AND PATIENCE.
Eventually you will get through all the shorts and this is how they should come out, if not better :) good luck!
